Denzel Washington played the title role opposite Jake Gyllenhaal’s Iago in Kenny Leon’s near-future staging of Shakespeare’s tragedy. Othello, a general, is led by his resentful ensign’s lies to believe that his new wife, Desdemona, has been unfaithful, with deadly consequences. The production was the play’s first on Broadway since 1982, and it earned Drama League nominations for Outstanding Revival of a Play and for both stars.
