Why we said yes
Alex Timbers rebuilt Circle in the Square as a nightclub, with cabaret tables around the band and Jonathan Groff, the year after his Tony Award for Merrily We Roll Along, playing Bobby Darin from the middle of the room. Darin’s songs are standards three generations can sing, and the staging turns the show into a night out rather than a night at a musical, in one of Broadway’s most intimate houses. A star, a songbook people already know and a production built to sell as an event: that is the kind of show we like to back, and we joined as a producer.
Where it stands
Running at Circle in the Square since it opened on April 26, 2025. It earned six 2025 Tony Award nominations and won two Drama Desk Awards, and its cast recording was nominated for a Grammy Award. In May 2026 the producers announced that the production had recouped its investment, the first musical of the 2024–25 season to do so, and a North American tour launches in June 2027.
