A musical built on the songs of the 1997 Cuban album. In 1996 Havana, singer Omara Portuondo is invited back into the studio, and the sessions carry her back to the clubs of the 1950s. It won four 2025 Tony Awards plus a special Tony for its band, and its cast album won the 2026 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

Why we said yes
The audience for this one existed before the show did. The 1997 album has sold millions of copies around the world, and Saheem Ali’s production treats the songs as the story: a live band on stage, choreography by Justin Peck and Patricia Delgado, and a company singing in Spanish to a Broadway house. The Off-Broadway run at Atlantic Theater Company in late 2023 was extended twice on ticket demand before Broadway was announced. New people in the seats, a production that had already proved itself, and a story that reaches far beyond the usual theatre crowd: we joined the Broadway production as a producer.
Where it stands
Running at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre since it opened on March 19, 2025. It won four 2025 Tony Awards plus a special Tony Award for its on-stage band, and the cast album won the 2026 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The first North American tour opened in Buffalo in September 2026, and a London production is planned for 2027.
